Safety and security in Bathurst begin with all of us. While CPF Sector 2 works closely with SAPS, security partners, and the Bathurst Ambassadors to address crime and improve visibility, every resident plays a vital role in keeping our village safe.
Your first responsibility is ensuring that your own property is secure, your household is informed, and that you remain alert to what happens around you. Equally important is sharing information responsibly. Accurate, timely reporting—whether positive or negative—helps us track patterns, identify repeat offenders, and provide meaningful support to SAPS.
To stabilise and strengthen our sector, we encourage all residents to report through the official communication channels. Avoid posting sensitive crime information on unmonitored public social media groups. These often create unnecessary panic, spread misinformation, and offer no support to SAPS or the CPF.
If you would like to reach out, offer your support, or get involved in any way, please contact us at bathurstcpf@gmail.com.
Together, we build a stronger, safer community.
Our safety is a shared responsibility! Here is what the South African Police Service Act (68 of 1995) means for YOU and our neighborhood:
The Police must work with us through Community Police Forums (CPFs).
The Goal: Build a partnership, improve local policing, and ensure transparency.
Your Role: Join the CPF to help identify and solve safety problems in our area.
Minimum Force: Police must always use the minimum amount of force that is reasonable for the situation.
Roadblocks: Police can set up roadblocks to prevent crime, but you have the right to ask to see their written authorisation.
Searches: In some cases (like near borders or for public safety), police may search vehicles or property without a warrant to seize illegal items.
The Independent Complaints Directorate (ICD) is a separate body that investigates police misconduct or deaths in custody to ensure justice.
No one is allowed to interfere with these independent investigations.
Don't Interfere: It is a crime to resist or hinder a member of the police doing their job.
Don't Impersonate: Pretending to be a police officer is a serious offense.
Respect the Uniform: Only authorised members may wear the SAPS uniform or badges.
Let’s work together for a safer South Africa! 🇿🇦
